I see Photobucket have deleted my images. I wish they would explain why? Just learned from the experience of other Glesca Pals that it's not Photobucket that deletes your images but you yourself when you move your files!

Two Glescapals black and white photos were used as reference for my painting "Dreepin' aff a dyke". The painting on canvas board measures 406 x 305mm (approx 16"x12") and was signed and dated by me in March 2009. The Wembley Bar located at the junction of Dunn Street and Baltic Street in the east end of Glasgow was a favourite haunt of local glescapals. The tenements in Baltic Street are in the process of being demolished due to redevelopment of the area in the late 1960's. The background tenements front Dalmarnock Road between Dunn Street and Fairbairn Street. In the foreground some young glescapals are kickin' a ba' aboot while two weans are climbin' a dyke. I've used artistic license tae show a couple o' gas street lamps wi' a wee lassie swingin' oan a rope attached tae wan o' the lamp posts. I'm no' sure if the ither wee lassie hingin' oantae the clathes pole is watchin' her pal swingin' or the boays playin' fitba'. .jpg)

My painting, "The Hay Cart" is based on the painting by John Frederick Herring Snr (1795-1865). I used acrylic paints on canvas board measuring 610 x 455mm (approx. 24" x 18") and protected my painting with two coats of gloss varnish. It was signed and dated by me in January 2008 .jpg)

My painting "Parkhead Stadium Railway Station" was painted from a black and white photograph that was published in the Glasgow Evening Times. The acrylic painting on canvas board measures 406x305mm (approx. 16"x12")and was signed and dated by me in July 2009. A passenger steam train en route to Carmyle from Bridgeton passes through the densely landscaped station that is overlooked by the tenements of Whitby Street. The tenements in the background are in Springfield Road at the junction with Janefield Street. Springfield steel foundry is on the left and the floodlights of Celtic Park football stadium are in the skyline. .jpg) The railway was in tunnel along the length of London Road emerging at Bridgeton Cross Station before joining the Glasgow Central line tunnel. Parkhead Railway Station opened in the late 1890's to serve the east end of Glasgow. Because of its close proximity to Celtic Park football stadium it was renamed Parkhead Stadium Railway Station on 3 March 1952. It was closed as part of Beeching's reform of the railways in the mid 1960's and was filled-in and landscaped over in 1989.

Hi William, I would just like to say how much I have enjoyed looking at your paintings, I especially like the black and white graphite sketches, it is many years since I was in York but your drawing of the Shambles is exactly like I remember it. Well done

You're so generous with your praise wilmabaird - thank you. My daughter has the Shambles framed under glass with a black mount and I must say, it looks very atmospheric. Much better than can be shown by an image posted on the MB.

Can anybody remember a winter at Bridgeton Cross like the one shown in my painting Looking southwards beyond the umbrella, Dalmarnock Road is to the left from which a number 46 motor bus from Castlemilk enters the cross. A motor vehicle emerges from Main Street behind the number 26 tracar en route to Scotstoun via Partick. James Street is located to the right of the taxi which is adjacent to Cockburn the Chemist and behind the pedal cyclist. The number 17 tramcar on the left is about to enter Dalmarnock Road en route to Cambuslang via Farme Cross. The snow covered cars heading south have entered the cross from Orr Street. The traffic policeman stops the flow of all traffic to enable pedestrians to cross over to the umbrella and also the slow moving horse and cart to cross over to the correct side of London Road, having just entered the cross from Olympia Street. The coalman and his horse and cart are heading along London Road towards Calton. .jpg)

Check my website: www.glescapals.com/profiles/wneilly.htm and you'll see I also paint your pet from your favourite photo. Here are some early examples of my own pets simply using pencil and cartridge paper. It's hard to believe that the drawings of my cats are 25 years old and the drawing of my dog is 36 years old! If you look closely at the drawing of the dog you'll see I signed it in 1973. .jpg) .jpg)

This is an acrylic painting of one of my cats - 10 year-old Fred. The painting, acrylic on canvas board measuring 508 x 406mm (approx. 20" x 16") was completed in December 2006. If you would like me to paint or draw one of your pets for that very special occasion, please don't be hesitate to contact me. I'm sure you'll be surprised at how little it will cost. Of course, if your "pet" happens to be a person, don't worry - I can draw/ paint portraits as well!

"An Alpine Village" is based on Vue de Kanderstein, Tyrol by Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg (1838-1904. My rendering uses acrylic paint on canvas board measuring 610 x 455mm (approx. 24" x 18") and the painting is protected with two coats of gloss varnish. My painting "Sunset Over Mallaig" was painted using acrylic on canvas board measuring approx. 400 x 300mm (16" x12") from a photograph taken by me in 1967. Mallaig, a fishing village, is located on the north west coast of Scotland. The view is from the hills behind the "white city" and looks down across Mallaig bay towards the harbour. The sun sets behind the Isle of Skye, a 15 minute ferry ride, across the Sound of Sleat. The Cuillin Hills of Skye are shown in the background. .jpg)
