I have just designed a GlescaPals webpage for a new book, by Bob Park a Glesca man. "Going for Broke on Jesus” is not a religious story in as much as stained glass windows, high church and ceremony are concerned. Bob was never in a church before he became a Christian except to get married and even then he was drunk. Jesus was nothing more than a name in the history books. Bob had dragged his wife and kids through hell for years and deserved nothing; every minute of his day would be spent seeing how much booze he could get down him. he was totally convinced that his future as a family man was doomed... Bob prays the book will encourage people to appreciate the problems alcohol abuse can cause to family life, but most important, the BOOK is NOT an argument FOR OR AGAINST DRINKING, it is the story of how a childlike faith in jesus restored a broken home and TURNED BEER BOTTLES INTO FURNITURE.

People often mock street 'Bible Thumpers' as they are referred to scathingly, and unfairly . Although I have never been strongly religous neither have I ever decried anyone who has or has adopted strongly religous views during the course of their life. It takes more than the average amount of courage to share with everyone your experiences and your beliefs and what led you to these. I look forward to reading this book at some point and I congratulate Mr Park on producing it.

I've finished reading this, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is written in a nice easy-flowing style, with contributions from his wife, which I thought was most appropriate. How she managed to stick by him, I'll never know!! Whether you enjoy it or not may depend on whether you have faith or not. However, at the end of this read, you can have nothing but admiration for the author, who not only turned his life around but went on to use his life to help others.

ye know mags, I Allan is always telling me to keep quiet, cos I share my life with everyboday and anybody who asks. Parts I am so proud of, I could burst, but others? . I envy people who lived this charmed perfect childhood. I believe we should share our experiences, cos you never know, the person you are talking to, may be going through what you went through last week, and just needs a wee bit of encouragement.

I had a lovely email from Bob and I say everyone has had some raw deals in life but I believe everyone has the right to view their opinions and speak their minds as we only get one chance at it .
Life is a precious thing, which I believe many take for granted and abuse it but people can always get help if they need it and I always say there is no one who is perfect but we can all but try to help others who are less fortune and sometimes it takes a big blow in life to make you love it more so I say to Bob well done you as you have been a very brave man.

I said it on another thread, but it's worth repeating. You Pals are a very caring group.
Offering it for free, buying the book snd saying you will pay to defray the costs for others who can't afford it, passing it along - fantastic!
