It is bringing back all kinds of memories. My husband of 50years lived at 375 Dalmarnock road for a while in the40s and I was born and lived in Bernard St till 1958 .We moved up London Rd When we married.I look at the old pictures in that book and remember going into a lot of those shops for messages.and everytime I visit Glasgow I see so many changes But the church we married in is still there .(St Francis In the East). And my mum was buried from there 2 years ago at age 92.She lived in Bridgeton all her life. Thanks to James McKenna for a great trip down memory Lane and thanks to you Wull for a great web site You are Simply the Best May

Hi James, I thought I would write you a note to tell you that when I went to visit my old ma' the other night I found she was reading a copy of your book. She was born and brought up in 2 Troon Street, Dalmarnock (born 1934) and could relate to many of the things you wrote of. Her quote about the book was "it's fascinating". She remembered all the short cuts you mentioned the weans used to take and the various people you mentioned. Nancy Whiskey lived across the back from her (I think they were similar ages though Nancy went to the R.C. school. In particular she spoke of the Martins of Lily Street who kept their horse in the house, standing in the bath. She remembers when they washed the horse (every Sunday) one of the Martins (maybe Mrs Martin) used to run it up and down Lily Street to dry it off. She was laughing at the memory of buying the candy apples and candy balls that the Martins made, and the realisation that she bought their stuff knowing they kept a horse in the hoose. Cheers! ASB
